Peter Molyneux Says 'Less Is More' For Fable 2

Head of Lionhead Studios Peter Molyneux has recently sat down with CVG to talk about Fable 2 and has said that 'Less is more' for Fable 2. He wants to concentrate on polishing the features they have now as much as they can rather than have lots and lots of features that are all half done.

In other words quality rather than quantity.
He also spoke about his ambitions:

I agree. When I was a kid, I remember hearing "less is more" and I thought, "wait, less is more? but isn't less...less?". But as long as you back up and beef up the features, it doesn't matter if theres only a tad few, because each feature will be an innovative (possibly), important, and fun asset.

-Peter Molyneux.

I know what he's saying here, why not just minimize the spells and leave all the ones people will actually use, and the spells that people will find fun and cool. There are agood amount of games out that use the "less is more" motto, because it works and it leaves all the things that not only the company can fit in, but what the gamer wants.

^That was a pretty long post

On a side note, it looks like Lionhead is maturing from some of their problems in past games (and, of course in Fable). Not too many problems, but they're there when it comes to knowledge of games. It seems like Lionhead is backing up their innovation with strong realization of what casual gamers, and hardcore gamers alike want. And that's great!

not if it means that the other cool features they promised us end up unfinished and we get a game half full of unimplemented features like we did with the first one

Id rather have a couple of really useful and well implemented ones than hundreds of them that are pointless, unnecessary and a waste of time.

Yea I hate having a spell that is only useful in rare circumstances that would have been simpler to do it another way.

Nice find, I'm glad PM and lionhead are doing a more reasonable approach this time, though PM was more fun to listen to when he raved about all the features Fable would have

Yeah, I have to agree with minimizing the spells. I mean, even with Fable I only ever use three or four spells. More than a few is too complex to use in the heat of combat anyway.

Now, about weapons I don't. I WANT a bunch of different guns and swords and bows.

Quests... I'm not sure. Which is better, a bunch of crappy quests or a very few good ones. How do you judge "crappy" and "good" for quests, anyway?

Less would also hopefully mean fewer glitches... there were a couple annoying ones in 1 and TLC, though not many.

The idea of having less stuff has finally reached lionhead! Who wants 3000+NPC's that looks like dolls and behave like idiots? I would rather have 10 "normal" npc's...

How about 200+ NPC's in a big town and 10 in a early developing town? That'd make things alot more realistic innovative and such and such... or maybe I'am asking of too much? As much as next gen has improved I'm sure a few hundred NPC's per town + nice graphics+ less features which are highly polished will still run fairly smooth. Atleast I'am hoping....
