Maybe somekind of midieval sports like a more primitive version of baseball or soccer, something like that, you could play them by towns and they could set up scedules on tavern walls on when games will be held and the more games your team wins the more renown you earn.

In keeping with the time period I believe popular sports included hunting, bowls, jousting, tennis and football as well as card and dice games.

hmm...this is actually a very good idea instead of playing poker all the time with one of those guys. jousting would be awesome to see and we could see it too if they add horses to the game.
