Briar's Tale
Another "tale" I did in the same style as Jack's Tale...except this one's about Briar.
Briar’s Tale
In Bowerstone North, on a snow laden day
A small baby girl was born, so they say
And though the parents’ joy was truly unbound
A sad life their daughter would live, so they found
Ah, ‘tis true that her life started fine
So spoiled was she that she never need pine
For the things that all others seemingly lacked
Her family was rich; this was nothing but fact
For years she did live a great life of plenty
So much so she was every girl’s envy
With good books to read and fine clothes to wear
It seemed she could live with not even a care
But fate, so it seems, is forever changing
And Briar’s good fortune would no longer be staying
One day, so she found, to her utter dismay
That mysterious powers did come into play
And sadly, it happened, that at the same time
Death would so silently, secretly climb
Into her life, and give her a start
And sadly tear her family apart
When one say her mother went out of the town
In a river fast flowing did she fatefully drown
And though Briar was present, not a thing she could do
It seemed that her powers would not help her through
Mournfully wept she, her soul in despair
Yet sadly her father gave not a care
Poor Briar was blamed for her mother’s sad death
And cast from the house as fast as a breath
Alone in the world was the fate she was left
Resorting to plunder and unholy theft
To keep herself going; ‘twas all she could do
It pained her to lead a life so untrue
Yet slowly it seemed her soul darkened and broke
All her happiness hidden behind a dark cloak
Of misery and pain, and loneliness too
She was a lost being, that much was true
Then one day came Maze, from the Guild far away
To save Briar from her days led astray
A new life he promised, to this fateful dame
To keep her away from her suffering and shame
And grudgingly did Briar consent
To a life that would no longer be spent
Wasting away in the slums with the rest
A Hero she’d be, the best of the best
But once at the Guild, where the Heroes did train
Clear was it that she had suffered the pain
Of being harmed by a person so dear
All people she shunned and refused to be near
It seemed only in with books was she ever content
They saved her from her dreadful torment
Yet ‘tis not to say that she never trained
For this she did, until her body it pained
Then came the day when she departed the Guild
Cunning of mind and in melee fights skilled
But her soul was still heavy, her peace was not found
Yet of this young Briar did not make a sound
The quests she did do, with magic and sword
First wasps she did slay, horde after horde
And thus began a life of renown
‘Her name was known in every town
For years it seemed, this was Briar’s whole life
A Heroine battling despite all the strife
But one day her life did come to an end
‘Twas time for her weary soul to heaven ascend
They laid her to rest, oh so many were present
From the rich to the Heroes and even the peasants
To watch as their Heroine was buried among
The briar rose bushes she had loved from so young
Forever protected among their thorns would she be
Their blossoms a terrible beauty to see
The dark branches looming and red roses blooming
In cold winds that always seemed to be fuming
Briar’s sad tale is a thing to remember
Reflected in the glow of each dying ember
A sad testament to the life she did live
In the end, peace was a gift Death did give
