Not weird.

There was a time when bit meant one-eighth and was used as a term for currency meaning 12.5 cents, or one-eighth of a dollar.
So of course there'd be 8 bits in a byte.

While 1 megabyte is 1048576 bytes, 1 megabit is 1000000 bits, or 125000 bytes, so 8 megabits is 1000000 bytes. There's a 48.5KB difference.
So 2MB[its]PS = ~244KB[ytes]PS.
