I just found these two sales tickers showing were each console is in up to the minute sales estamates not surprisingly the estamites are different but the gist is the same 360 is on top, the Wii is closing fast and the PS3 is a distant third.

• Xbox:First to Market, XBL
• Wii: Price, Casual Gamers
• PS3: Too much $, Not enough games

Interesting articles and the momentum the Wii has will continue for a while but it doesnt have the lasting appeal behind it to stay like that and it will fade.

I guess the question seems to be about the casual gamer as a separate market. If that is indeed who is buying the Wii then they are not competing. Xbox and PS for the hardcore gamer and Wii for the casual gamer. Though Microsoft certainly wants the casual gamer too as does Sony as well. Hell Sony wants any gamer, but they are clearly not targeting the casual gamer. If/when Microsoft and Sony drop their prices will Nintendo do the same? Probably but by how much? It will be an interesting summer. If there wasn't a Wii where would those sales go? Microsoft? Sony? Something else entirely? So many question such fun speculation its almost as fun as the consoles them selves

The Wii wouldnt really have to drop its prices as its sales are doing fine and its already much cheaper than the others but they could if they chose to. The Microsoft executives have also said that they want a price thats close to the Wii's as this is a very appealing factor for a console, plus the 360 has many more mainstream games to appeal to the broader market and hardcore and casual gamer alike. The PS3 can ONLY appeal to the hardcore gamer with its power being its main selling point and with its huge price tag so they dont really have much to work with.
