Also the release date was announced as October 21st in the US and the 24th in th Europe. So that date wouldn't have won

Yeah it's not so much a lie as an inaccurate guess. Had they known the correct release date they would have put it in the catalogue.

As a note Best Buy still says 10/15/2008 on their site

^ Argos, like everyone else who has a catalogue for their business, will have been given a ballpark month and gone with the best estimate they could - the catalogues are made well before they are released so the dates will be changed instore by way of an insert, but the home catalogue will display the incorrect information.
