Fable 2 Wins X-Play's 2008 Game of the Year Award

It's just the first of many outlets' awards shows, but looking at that list it probably comes as something of a surprise for many to see Fable 2 emerge victorious. Peter Molyneux, creative director at developer Lionhead Studios, talked in some detail about the game during his acceptance interview via satellite. Molyneux pointed to the diverse experiences players have with the game coupled with its easy accessibility as the foundation of its appeal. Molyneux noted their choice to use the breadcrumb trail as opposed to a traditional mini map as another example of how they simplified playing the game without sacrificing content.

Molyneux also discussed some their upcoming DLC plans for Fable 2. He explained that continuing the flow of content for the game has always been part of the plan and that it would range from new storylines and monsters to fight all the way to new gameplay elements.

And never one to shy away from dropping a few rumor-fostering hints Molyneux wrapped things up by saying that Lionhead is at work on two big projects. One of them he described as something familiar, the other as pushing them very hard. Uh, and that's it. After warning that he was secluded from PR supervision we expected a little bit more than the announcement of when we'd actually get to hear something, but that's what we got. Molyneux said he hopes to start pulling back the curtain on their new project at next year's GDC. Let the wild Internet speculation begin.

Some of the huge hitting titles, are almost impossible for a lot of us to play. Namely me. There are a lot of casual players, who can't get through some games like the Force Unleashed, so they vote too. Fable 2 is playable by anyone, and has many more people voting for it, because of that.

Did that make sense to you? It's a little hard to explain, online.

It deserves it, it may not be the hardcore's cup of tea- but then the hardcore are a just a fraction of the gaming population. (plus their vote was probably too split to make a difference)

Half of Fable II's features offered nothing other than giggles. If an advertised feature is for the most part useless, it's a flawed feature.

Fable II did not deserve it.

I have to agree with grammar cop on this one, Fable 2 was great but there are hella gewd games on that menu

I agree.
It's a good game against every other game this year but compared to Fallout 3,GTAIV and Gears of war 2 it's nothing.

maybe so, but there were too many- so the votes for game of the year got split too widely among the bigger hitters.

This is a case of a smaller fish getting to move freely cause all the big fish got stuck because of each other.

F2 Deserves it. i've never completed a game 3 times consecutively and still maintained interest in it like i have with fable 2

aside from F2, GTA4 is the only other game amongst those titles that i was really keen to play, but then i played it, and i was not impressed. i put it on today, coz i've been raking in the gamerpoints over the last week and i only have 55 on it, but within 10 mins, i was bored again.

^yknow what i agree i do think Fable 2 is most fitting. I mean it brought alot of aspects to gaming like the breadcrumb trail.(although i wewdve loved a pop up mini map better)

just saying dont go buying a game based off of their ratings
