ActionTrip has compiled their list of the 10 most influential RPG's, for both console and PC, of our time.
Ranking in at number 10, is Lionhead's much beloved Fable.

Peter Molyneux Fable (Xbox) was one of those games successfully combining good design with a neatly packed gameplay. Although it never really lived up to its hype, the game was a major financial success. Above all, it made an even greater impact when it arrived on the PC market, with more than an adequate adaptation, entitled Fable: The Lost Chapters. Fable didn't exactly revolutionize the modern-day RPG, but it sure as hell offered a fine example of fantasy flavored story-telling. It reminds us that even the simplest formula can provide decent entertainment.

well, this isn't a list of the best RPG's it's a list of the ones that have had the most influence...
Oblivion is far too new to be able to have influenced any other games yet... Fable to an extent is too, which is why it ranked at the bottom of the list...

A lot of great games on the list. Glad Fable could make it, but of course...WoW had to steal it away.

I dont necessarily agree that Fable should be number 10 either. Fable shows (rarely do games do this) that rpg's don't have to have pure action to be fun (for example, the expression system). Hey, it's called Role Playing, and Fable showed that. Number 10? I'm a bit iffy on it being number 10. But then there's baldur's gate, which was a great franchise.

I think Fable is a great game... but if it were to be number one or something that would be just ridiculous... other games, like those listed such as KotOR and Baldur's Gate have had a far more profound impact on the RPG genre and the gaming industry...
this isn't about the best game... it's about influence
... for things like the expression system to have influenced other games you'd have seen them in other games... and I haven't... maybe we will soon, but in that case they can go rank higher on the next one...
for a game that recent to have ranked at all is an accomplishment in itself
