First Vista Service Pack Out In March

Microsoft have just announced that the first Service Pack for its Windows Vista Operating System has gone gold and will be out Mid-March.

The very official version of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is nearly upon us. Microsoft's announced the first major update for the OS has gone gold and should be available to the public mid-March.

Initially SP1 will appear for download on the download centre on Microsoft's website, and then in mid-April lazy people who have selected to download updates automatically will get it.

But, says Mike Nash from the Windows Product Management group, "any system that Windows Update determines has a driver known to not update successfully will not get SP1 automatically.

"As updates for these drivers become available, they will be installed automatically by Windows Update, which will unblock these systems from getting Service Pack 1. The result is that more and more systems will automatically get SP1, but only when we are confident they will have a good experience."

Nash promises that SP1 further improves the reliability and performance of Windows Vista.

"SP1 also" he adds, "includes changes focused on improving the performance of Windows Vista in areas that impact the customer experience the most.

"For instance, with SP1, copying or moving files around your PC, your home network or your corporate network should now be much faster - up to 50% faster in some scenarios (according to our internal tests).

"In addition, on many kinds of hardware, resuming a Windows Vista-based PC from sleep is faster on Service Pack 1".

There's nothing game-specific mentioned. But will SP1 persuade you to switch to Vista if it improves things generally?

I just got rid of Vista... I went back to XP. I like XP it much better

Lots of people did to be honest. Good to see some form of update and improvement is on the way though.

I may be willing to check out the final version of Vista, whenever that comes out, but it only seems to cause problems now

Yeah i wont upgrade until its finally stable and runs with very few issues, however with it being a windows platform that might be never.

I must be the only person that actually likes Vista. I could never go back to XP after experiencing the coolness that is Vista. It's good to hear there's a Vista service pack being released in March, too. I personally haven't experienced a single problem with Vista with my notebook but, hopefully, plenty of Vista users who download the first service pack will be able to enjoy Vista the way it was meant to be.

i agree with ego. im curious as to what other perks this service pack will include. though my notebook loads at a decent rate, id like to see it load just as fast as xp. i wonder if they will throw in any game updates last minute?

I wouldnt have thought so, might cause some unforeseen instability adding things last minute and they definitely wouldnt want that.

I hate vista. After vista came out I grew to hate microsoft. I like xp however. But vista is a total rip off of Mac OSX Tiger. Vista is flawed and causes to many problems and it is a graphical drain on performance. Every thing was changed in vista and learning its fuctions compared to the tried and true methods of winxp is just not something that is worth doing. Hopefully XP will be supported long enough I can just skip that pile of crap much like I did ME

I like Vista. I have never recieved any problems with vista except that i cant even rename/move my pictures folder
