Fort

Forts are fun, aye? I've started work on building one for Fable. I have big plans for it, but more on that later.

This is what I've got so far:Note that it isn't finished, I've yet to make a gate for it so nothing can get in or out.

Read here - this is where you come in!
As always, I need ideas. What I've got so far is very simplistic, it's just four walls. I don't know much on these things, but I do know that just a few little things can make my fort much more impressive. What those little things would be, I have no clue. So there you go, suggestions are welcome. I'm really looking for ideas from anyone with a history in art or design, someone who notices the mundane things, but anyone else can go for it too.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another note, I have the know-how to manipulate cameras and cutscenes, and it was suggested to me that I create an awesome YouTube video to promote Fable modding. I know that I'll be using this fort in that video. What I don't know is what the video will consist of. And before someone says "epic battle lolz" yea, duh. Like I was going to do a romance or some crap. I've thought of themes, like bandits vs guards, good heroes vs evil heroes, villagers vs monsters, etc. and such, but that's as far as I got.

Read here - you come in again!
Once more, I need ideas. It would really, really help if someone out there with a background in theatre arts or media production or anyone else could come up with some choreographic battle concepts.

So, there it is. Any ideas are welcome, and if I use any ideas, whoever thought of it will be credited.

Also, please, please please don't make me regret asking for ideas. I've done this a few times before and I have always ended up wishing I hadn't.

Re: Fort

My fort door, I spawn the lockpick expression early in case I want out the door. You could make a duplicate object and make it bigger so it would fit your walls.
Warning, this is a spoiler!

Mundane stuff, a start anyway.

Here is an area that I closed in with wood and left no door. The exit is between the statues.

Re: Fort

Wow, that's kinda cool.

Don't flame me.

Now, I wish that there was a fort in Fable II and you were the owner and you had to do quests and stuff, and protect it from bandits etc.

Pic of a cool, but small fort in M&B Custom Settlements mod (NOT FABLE). Check it out.

Warning, this is a spoiler!

This should give you an idea about stuff that can be inside the fort. I've got lots of more pictures, so if you want I could post em. If not, I'm not gonna bother you again ;s

JD, a good hero/army vs a good hero gone bad/army that came from the other army. Sorta like WoW or FF Crisis Core.

Re: Fort

This was my idea for the gate:When closed, it's just another piece of the wall that I can walk on. Really handy.

Mundane stuff... beds, people need to sleep, barracks? I can make a barracks. A line of beds on both sides, and a cauldron cooking over a fire just outside. I spotted dummy targets in Daemon300's pic, I can put a few straw dummies alongside the barracks.

Thanks for the ideas so far, I appreciate it.

Re: Fort

How large are u planning on making it? Like making 2, 3 floors or something? That would be sweet, also adding like a lookout tower type thing would be cool too. Maybe if you multi-layer it (floors) you could have a balcony on one of the floors (similar idea-wise to Oldboy's (from FableTLCMod) Guild Balcony) that holds a teleport panel like the one at the guild.

This looks amazing! I'm anticipating its further progression

Re: Fort

A watchtower. It's missing a watchtower. I can do that. Perhaps two on either side of the gate.

TNG dimensions are just slightly larger than 32x32. So it's the whole creature_hub map. Because of its size, I don't have to stack floors. Remember that I'll be making a cutscene in the fort, two floors means I'll have to do twice as much work with the math - I'm good at math and I like it, but I hate doing it.

This is just a concept layout I'm playing with, the back of the fort:
Warning, this is a spoiler!
And the front:
Warning, this is a spoiler!
The thing in the tower in the center is a bell - I had the idea to start the attack scene with the sound of an alarm bell ringing.
The white things behind the center building are straw dummies, for fort inhabitants to practice with. Little things, little things.
The center building is the barracks, inside I plan to have beds and weapon racks and a back office room with a desk, chair, fire place, another bed, more little things.
The two other buildings I intend to turn into watchtowers. Notice that they connect, the bridge can be used as a spot for archers to attack etc. etc., buildings will have more weapon racks, shield decorations, and even more little things.
White squares are doors. The square on top of the barracks is an Oblivion-style trap door, with stairs leading to it from inside the building. Used to get access to the bell - which I'm thinking I'll use as the cutscene trigger, Hero strikes the bell and the cutscene starts, meh.

But this is just a concept, and the production is very fluid, anything could change at any moment. For example, since making the renders I've thought of adding flags. Then I thought I'd call this project "Fort Lion" and have LionHead flags here and there (because I secretly love the idea of Lionhead getting burned to the ground). But yea, very fluid.

Insights appreciated, suggestions, feedback from concept and renders, whatever, feel free to share your thoughts.

Re: Fort

I'd put two perimiter turret towers on both sides of the gate, Lookout Towers on all corners of the fort, Pots of boiling oil to pour on enemy troops or battering rams, With a 3 or 4 inch thick sheet of Iron or Steel on the outer walls to prevent them from burning down the Fort, or chopping their way in. I'd probably put Longbowmen on the Lookout Towers, Crossbowmen on the Perimiter Towers, and one big, really thick tower in the middle with a mixture of Ballistae, Mangonels, Crossbowmen and Longbowmen. Spearmen would wait inside all the towers to fend off anything that got in to try to kill the Bowmen, with Swordmen in Plate armor with Mail under the Plate to Defend should the enemy get in, and Macemen with Flails, Morning Stars, Leather armor and Light Iron shield as Hit-and-Runners, and to run down Archers. Barracks would go on the East and West side, stretching from the North-East tower to the South-east tower for the east one. Same for the west (Just replace East with west, obviously). With 2 armories, both close to / connecting to the barracks so in case of an attack, so sleeping soldiers may grab arms quickly.

I put too much thought into that.

Re: Fort

I knew I knew you, Colton. Your posts, they still smell the same.

Anyway, to about half of what you said, no. Not possible.
To about a quarter of what you said, no. Too impractical.
To the rest of what you said, no. We're talking about Fable here.

The idea is to have the enemies (whoever I decide to make the enemies) storm the fort and slaughter everything and burn it all to the ground, that's the whole point. I just want it to look nice when it happens.

Do they smell of Vanilla and Tears?

My bad, didn't know it wasn't possible.

i r teh nub modderz.

Make sure you take pictures so I may revel in the slaughter.

In that case maybe go for something a bit more heavy-weight than bandits. If it's a fort I doubt they lack the mental capacity to even get inside. Come to think of it neither do I.
Oo shiny.
