Halo 3 Reviews

The highly awaited Bungie masterpiece and flagship title for the Xbox 360 is finished, and in stock in shops (and in some peoples hands thanks to errors in some stores) and now its been reviewed. Ive been waiting for reviews to surface for a while and they have all been contracted to stay silent until now. So expect more to flood in soon... for now here are Gamespots and CVG's reviews.

The Bad

  • Rewinding saved films doesn't work quite like you'd expect it to
  • AI-controlled Marines can't drive to save their lives (or yours)
  • Inevitable flood of prepubescent online players sure to hamper your enjoyment of the online modes.
I think a 'lol' is in order. Heh.

Re: Halo 3 Reviews

Nice one, Andy. Looks like Halo 3 is just getting great reviews everywhere. Halo 3 scored a 9.5 over at IGN and GameSpot which can't be a bad thing. GameTrailers scored it an almost perfect 9.8 as well.

The Sony Defence Force website doesn't seem to be quite so keen on Halo 3 for some reason though...

Im heading over to IGN and Gametrailers to read theirs now, and i might as well read Sony Defence Force one for a good laugh.

Great scores so far:

Gamespot - 9.5
Ign - 9.5
CVG - 9.7
Gametrailers - 9.8

Re: Halo 3 Reviews

Here is a not-so-happy review about the Single-Player, but I think we can honestly say nobody was expecting another Bioshock here. Multi-player is where Halo 3 is at.

Re: Halo 3 Reviews

As I suspected, that last one seems to be WAAAAY too harsh. It's a video game. Halo could overall stand to be better, especially considering the huge backstory Bungie has for it and their excellent storyline in Marathon, but it's not exactly bad as far as video game storytelling goes.

Re: Halo 3 Reviews

My review is I liked the first 2 better. I just beat the whole game. Took a lot of hours (On Normal) It was insane..but I still like the other ones better.

Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful and tons of fun, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I was

Re: Halo 3 Reviews

I think the first will always be the best as it was just an instant classic but i think Halo 3 is much better than Halo 2. Also the multiplayer and replayability over that and all different modes is crazy. Plus as Markie said its pretty tough.

Compare it to a Bioware story it is rather bad actually...

I mean, the two other games had such shallow stories that they had to release books explaining what was going on.

well I would agree that the story doesn't compare to any of Bioware's but Halo also isn't an RPG

I thought the story was rather good if you pay attention... the books aren't required to get what's going on

Nope. But rather than expand the universe, they are helping you understand what happens in the games... which I would say is bad.

A game's storyline shouldn't need that, it should speak for itself, RPG or not...

Look at Mass Effect; Revelation will probably be a bonus, you should have no problem understanding Saren and Andersson without it.

Re: Halo 3 Reviews

Bungie's problem is that the wanted the game to be accessible to people who wouldn't give a damn about the story and didn't want to think. Do the math. There's a reason I prefer the Arbiter to Master Chief >_<" While he's not super-inventive, you can see that he does have a bit of depth to him. So does MC, of course........But mostly in the books. It does bother me that they apparently didn't explore Cortana and Arbiter's sides of the story, but eh.

Like I said, I KNOW Bungie can do much better, but as far as video game plots go I'll forgive them because it's not all that bad overall and besides, it hasn't been that long since Bioshock was released (and unfortunately a lot of people didn't "get it" plot-wise...Thinking hurts ;-)). Give the industry some time and hope they learn.

I was reading the CVG review of Halo 3 a few days ago, till my net got cut.

Nice to see it receiving lots of good rep all round. But unsure if it's my kind of game though.

A couple of people i know didnt think the Halo series would be for them as they preferred more realistic shooters like Call Of Duty and Rainbow Six Vegas etc. However they played Halo and just loved how it felt like a top range PC game with its options and multiplayer aspect and that impressed them a lot.
