Halloween is not American, it is Celtic, and the real name is Samhain.

Seriously? I hardly think they 'scream'. You need to learn to turn your outdoor light off so you don't make them think you have candy, and learn to be mre tolerant, because you were once a 'snotty little brat'. And don't insult a 4 year old's speech skills, that's completely irrelevant to the point you're trying to make.
God damnit.

Re: Happy Halloween
Halloween is the bastardization, or americanization, of said Celtic holiday. It doesn't really play out like that in the other parts of the world, so its pretty accurate to call it "an American thing".

Wtf Mom when did you join fable forums?
I went as The Binge-er-bread man.
I'd post a link to the video that inspired it, but it invovles some seriously 18+ stuff.
If you really want to see it, go to Newgrounds.com...
I warned you.

Honestly, the kids in my town scream like there's no tomorrow. I have no idea what they think they are achieving.

Honestly, yes, I agree with Tsuyu here, to a degree. People can say "oooh, it's really Samhain" all they want, but it's still not true. Also, they can say "oooh, it's evil" (same reasons for both, probably) all they want, and it's still not true. Whatever its origins, Halloween is just a fun, secular holiday for scaring the **** out of small children and making yourself feel better about doing so by giving them candy.
And, if you want to get technical, Halloween is probably the bastardization of All Hallow's Eve, and All Hallow's Eve is the bastardization of Samhain. Thank you, Catholicism. Without you, we'd have nothing.

From my experience, I've heard that British children scream a lot, but still, it's not all on their end per se.

Just out of curiosity, is that in any way related to the Day of the Dead holiday celebrated in Latin American countries on November 1st and 2nd? I know Sweden is quite far away from Latin America, but their holiday and yours sound exactly the same.
Btw, James, can we get a spoiler for that pic please?

To answer: Almost certainly yes. All the remembrance-of-the-dead holidays around that time in all the European and former colonial countries are almost certainly related, at least if I had to guess.

Re: Happy Halloween
It is the Protestant equivilant of the Catholic holiday of All Souls Day. El Día de los Muertos is probably the original Catholic holiday, but with a Latin twist on it. So yes, they are related, if not the same thing.

Re: Happy Halloween
Yeah, I think that the Day of the Dead has elements from preexisting native traditions, but I could be wrong.
And yeah, All Soul's Day is actually celebrated here... but in no major way. And I'm not Catholic.
