does anyone listen to the Fooies?

well i love these guys and ive been listening to But, Honestly for a while now and ive noticed my copy fades out then blasts back with a massive amount of volume even though its an acoustic type song, well i was wondering whether this is how the guys recorded it or if my download is dodgy?

It's illegal, I'm afraid. The people who have made the music/films do not make a penny if people download their stuff illegally and not all bands/artists/actors are super mega-money-making stars who wipe their backsides with $100 bills. If the download isn't offered by the band/film company themselves then it most likely is not legal.

I think it's the only time when pirates are not better than ninjas

He got so f***ing ripped off while he was living, so the money you pay for HIS music dont go to his family and while he was living he didnt earn sh*t from his music. If you want it, download it instead of buying it...

Well i bought all the foo fighters albums from itunes except for Echoes silence patience grace, so it was an illegal file and it was corrupted i now this now as i have bought the real album from itunes.

i don't think there is anything particularly wrong with downloading a few songs, if you get a few samples and you really like the sound then your going to be a supporter of the band in the future. I mean this time last year i hardly knew who the fooies were now i have all their albums a t-shirt and a ticket to their show in may

But i don't think its right to rip off smaller bands, like local ones or ones that havn't got a very large fan base.

Also i love hendrix

Doesn't this come under Discussion of illegal activities such as p2p file sharing, software and media piracy?

And anyways, bands don't generally make that much from CD's. I learnt in my music industry course that bands are lucky to make like 2 cents a CD. The rest of that $20 goes to the recording company, publishings company, agents, managers, etc.

It's hard to make money with music

Well if your good enough or if you record independantly it would be a decent business.

I mean the when the Chili's signed with Warner Brothers way back when they were given 1 million dollars each before they had even put their signatures on the contract.

Ooh your right it is in breach of that a little isnt it. maybe if i didnt mention the name of the thingamabob i got the song from it wouldn't breach the T&C as much.

But if it does maybe it would be best if this thread was deleted

We won't need to delete it - but please can we not discuss encouraging illegal downloads, just to keep everything squeaky clean.

And yeah, I used to copy everything because I actually didn't know you weren't allowed to. Plus mix cd's they sell in shops never had the tunes I wanted so I figured why not make my own? But sadly tis illegal and I had to stop...

You can download samples legally, I believe, normally from the official fansites...I do it sometimes because I'm not sure if I want to buy an album or not. I have Echose, Silence, Patience and Grace on CD but to be honest, I prefer their last album to this one.../useless information

If it isn't a very well known band, try searching for their name on MySpace. I've got tons of free kickass music by relatively small and unknown, but kickass, bands who gives out their music in mp3 form on their MySpace website or official website.

A good way for bands to get noticed, 100% legal and 100% kickass.

As for my opinion on downloading "illegal music"(Yes, mother - erhm, Angel, I know I shouldn't keep up the discussion... but I'm a naughty boy) is that a band doesn't get paid per album sold, they sell their rights to someone who then makes the CD albums. Almost 100% of what you pay for a CD goes to some fatcat in the music industry, not the artists.
