C.

"Excuse me, sir?" you say.
"I thought I told you to get lost?!?"
"Well, I was just wondering if I could possibly do some services for you and you could let me slip on through the gates?"
"What are you getting at?" he asks
"Well, maybe if you needed a favor to be don-"

The guard cuts you off and says,

"Citizen, are you implying something of a sexual nature? I'll have you know I am happily married and can get pleasures from my wife, thank you very much!"

You reply, "I was going to ask if you need me to do any menial tasks around the city for you."
"Oh," he says "in that case yes. I do have a few things that I would like you to do."

The guard lists four tasks that you have a choice of doing, they are:

a. Kill a water monster out in Bowerstone Harbor
b. Take the night shift for the entire guard crew
c. Collect the taxes owed by the people in the town (by any means necessary)
d. Get the mushroom junkies out of the town and into Greatwood

Re: A Hero's Journey

You decide to rid the town of the junkies, just because you feel like whooping some pacifist, shroom sucking a*s. You start out on the pier, looking for anyone who seems intoxicated. You notice an old witch, stirring a cauldron. She seems innocent enough, but you can never be too sure. You stroll over and grab her arm, shake her violently, and throw her to the ground. She wails and cries "What're ya doin to me?!?"

"Shrooms, you have any?"
"Eh, uh, yea-, I mean NO!"
"Lies!" You scream and then grab her and sling her over your shoulder.

You teleport to the middle of Greatwood and throw her to the ground. Before going back you kick dirt in her face and laugh menacingly. You then do a clean sweep of the town, taking a stoned woman and her children from behind the Pub and tossing them into the Bowerstone River. You find three men behind the clothing shop, slumped on crates talking about "Flying Balverines and Krakens in a pond of scrumpy". Apprehending all three you drag them with both hands, tossing one into the River. Another you heave into the forests, and the third one you bring to the picnic area. This third one, you don't like him. Your back is sore, you had to drag women and children around all day, and he tore a hole in your favorite shirt. What do you do with him?

a. Leave him alone, and let him wander where he will.
b. Beat him bloody, then rob him
c. Just beat him
d. Just rob him
e.

Re: A Hero's Journey

You advance on the poor soul whose life is about to become a living hell. You walk over and start kicking him violently. Punching him with one studded glove, you easily cruch his nose and can hear bones breaking. After he has become a thorough pulp, you reach into his pocket and take the three gold coins he has. As you start walking away someone speaks to you.

They say, "I have been watching you for some time now my boy."

You turn around, and are startled and amazed by who it it. It is the one and only Jack of Blades. He is sitting on the sundial which is dedicated to him. Bewildered and somewhat frightened, you cannot find the right words to say.

"Well, are you going to speak or not? Do not waste my time, Sauron..."
You reply, "I... I'm just... startled is all..."

"Don't be, please. But I have a proposal for you. Something you cannot refuse."

"Umm. What is it?" you inquire.

Jack says "I want to see you fight in the Arena. I am giving you an all access pass to walk right through the doors and be the next Champion. I have been observing you for a long time, Sauron. I want to see if you are Arena worthy. And perhaps if you do well in the Arena I may have a place for you outside the Guild. Would you like that? To not be a b*stard child of the Guild anymore, no more chores, do what you want. You could be feared! Respected! Idolized! A KING! A god amongst mortal men!"

With this amazing proposal hanging in front of you (and perhaps your very life) you need to make a critical decision. What do you do?

a. Tell Jack to bugger off
b. Accept it
c. Go to the arena but take your earnings and your family and sail away from here
d. Ask some more questions

Yes, it makes little sense. But I didn't want some boring, flat story.

D it is.

"Why do you want ME, Jack?" you say
"You are a strong warrior, you have much... potential."
"I'm not convinced." you reply
"Look, I do not have to be asking you to do this. I can easily find another fighter, I could easily kill you all the same."

You realize he's serious. The path is clear to you, but you cannot see where it will end. Jack looks at you, and says "Well?"

a. Yes.
b. No.
