Interview with Peter Molyneux

Yet another interview with Peter Molyneux

Here are the Fable bits

Quote:
Let’s talk about Fable 2. There are two subjects very present in all your games: good and evil, and freedom. Is Fable 2 going to reach the freedom level most of the players were expecting from the first Fable? Will the player really have the choice, not only to be good or bad following a scripted path, but also to write his own adventure? Can you give us an example of how much freedom of movements and choice will the players have?

Yes there will be both total freedom of movement and a broader range of emotional choices in Fable 2. Firstly the world is totally free roaming and simulated to such a degree that not only can you go anywhere you want but you can buy everything you see and could end up owning and ruling the whole world! As I mentioned we’ve expanded our choice axis system so now it’s not just good/evil but also purity/corruption and kindness/ cruelty. All of the choices you make are reflected not only in your character but also by your dog, family and children too. In short we’ve tried to make sure that Fable 2 is bigger and better than the original game in every way, which is what I think a sequel should always be.

You have also talked about Love in Fable 2. As you said, love is one of the most important things in real life, but videogames do not reflect that. Is fable going to give love the importance it has? I can imagine how anger affects to combat, or fear affects to dexterity, but it´s hard to imagine how love can affect a character, besides drawing red hearts over his head.

It’s the fact that characters and things in the game care about and love you which makes love so powerful in Fable 2. These emotions do affect who you are and what you represent in the game. You’ll find the love that it exhibted to you strangely compelling. During play throughs here we’ve found this aspect of the game very intoxicating as you start to care for the things that care for you and we will really exploit that to enhance the game play experience.

It has been said that, in Fable 2, players can buy buildings, and even a castle on top of a mountain. That is great... but, If I bought a castle I would like everyone to know, I would like to see other players astonished by my migthy fortress, and I mean real players. Will Fable 2 have online capabilities, so players can interact with each other?

This not something I can talk about at the moment. Online, trading, co-op and showing off are my favorite features in games (and I love working on my favorite features!)
If that last part isn't a confirmation of what the online experience will be I don't know what is

Check out the whole article where he says that XBL will be more impactful than the Wii motion sensing controller

Score 1 for Fable 2, Score 0 for everything else

Peter M. is amazing, and his view of how a rpg game should be astonishes me more than any other RPG.

And now, I can show off my fortress to me buddies on Projectego

My kingdom would be named "Awesome"...because it's 20% population and agriculture, and 80% awesome.

My kingdom would be called either Sandwich or Fuiz, because I'm a pompous jerk who likes referencing himself.

Im glad to hear that there will be an expanded choice axis. Not sure what to think about any online elements at this point.
