It's the size?

OK, this computer ( my old one, not the laptop ) is officially out of memory. I was cleaning out some junk, but I got question about the size and memory that it says.
What is GB and MB? How much bigger is the other?
Let's say I accidentally erase something that helps your computer runs. How would I get it back?
I got rid of GIMP, but it's still in my computer. How do I get rid of it for good? ( I un-install it, but it still there )

1GB is approx. 1000MB (thereabouts anyway).
you can download free data restore demos, they should get your stuff back...
you can download software that hunts through your computer for files associated with what you are uninstalling (you generally need to uninstall through the though so you may need to put gimp back on if you can).
these can both be downloaded fo9r ree either by googling them, or you can find lots of interesting and also lots of free downloads on cnet (either .com or .co.uk or w/e)

1 MB is somewhere around 1000 KB(kilobytes), and 1 B(byte) is like i think 8 bits? or something? thats a breakdown of sizes. and if you have vista you can perform a system recovery that returns your computer to factory condition, but wipes out all the files youve put on them

Re: It's the size?

Again, I need more memory... So I'm cleaning again.

Lets say I have 69 bytes, how much is that compared to MB? ( I didn't understand what Man said about bits )

What are CUE files?

69 bytes? thats waaaaaaay below megabytes. that wont get you anything. you need an upgrade, or perform a disk cleanup. (bits are the lowest in bandwidth, bytes is the same, but just holds a little more)

cue files are related to the layout of cds i guess...

Re: It's the size?

The esimates on GM to MB are fairly accurate here is the exact comparison.

First a bit (b) is a binary number represented by a 1 or a 0

8 bits (b) = 1 Byte (B)

For the most part bits are used to messure speed and Bytes are used to messure storage

1024B = 1KB KiloByte Text files are usually 20-100KB
1024KB = 1MB MegaByte Pictures music range from 1-15 MB based on the length and quality
1024MB = 1GB GigaByte Full length Movies are around 5 GB
1024GB = 1TB TeraByte Large Databases or a weeks worth of TV
1024TB = 1PB PetaByte Walmarts Database is just over 1 PB
1024PB = 1EB ExaByte Every word ever spoken by every human ever can be stored in 5 EB

Note most HDs advertise 1GB =1,000,000,000 Bytes but your computer knows that 1GB =1073741824 Bytes so if you buy a 200GB HD and hook it up it may well say that you have a 186 GB HD. Another factor is partitioning which is a different topic all together.

.Cue files are just 'image' files that CD Burning software use to create a CD.

This is a good free program to use to keep all unnecessary crap off your computer.

You may want to try to get an additional hard drive if you are running low on space.
60GB external hard drive is around $60-$80.

Me too. It's fun on a computer. I deleted one .CUE file and the game play didn't change, so I guess it's not anything big. +REP for using emulators. THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS!
