Hey if you go to game politics, and scroll down all the way you'll see my little comment about the blame video games incident.

Re: Jack Thompson Blames Violent Games For Mass Killing

Here is the problem. This turd up and blames it on violent video games, and Rosie "The Blabbermouth" O'Donnel blames it on guns. The fact of the matter is THIS MAN HAD CLEAR PSYCOLOGICAL PROBLEMS. He should have been in either jailed or been in theraputical care. With those simple measures this could be prevented. Tsuyu, I know what you said was an exaggeration, but seriously. A 9 MM and .22 Handgun are extremely common, and are two of the most produced, and owned weapon types in the US. It wouldn't be hard to acquire them.

You just proved my point all over again, and made my argument even stronger.

I aint no America hater who burns the flag and stuff, but I find the right to carry guns to be extremely idiotic. No matter how you disguise it by arguing that the gun is just another "tool" like a screwdriver or whatever - a screwdriver isn't designed to kill. This is what happens, and nearly 40 people are dead.

Now what do you mean by saying "the right to carry guns"? Because its illegal to have any sort of weapon, concealed or not, in public places.

Tsuyu, I have a great deal of respect for you. I do like you a lot, and I'd rather not get into a heated debate over this. So if we could not say anything that would make ourselves angry at each other then lets not do so.

I agree with you completly, but we have the right to bear arms, for two reasons
1)Protection
2)to hunt, and only then we have to go through hunter safety, and we have to have a permit.
But we don't have the right to carry and consel arms, only the armed forces and Policemen and government burrows the that right.

This is not an arguement just stateing the facts

Re: Jack Thompson Blames Violent Games For Mass Killing

I think that the "right to bear arms" does make obtaining a firearm a bit simpler than it would be in other nations which don't have rights like that...
obviously it's not legal for an American to simply march about with a gun cocked at all times and wander about with it in public.... but it's also not legal for anyone to go on a killing spree... so whether the law frowns upon taking them out with you or not is really a moot point, as it's the fact that they have the guns so readily available in the first place that is the issue...
obviously there are much bigger factors, for instance everyone who owns a gun doesn't go around killing people... that's a sign of a serious psychological problem... but if that person was going to snap either way, and didn't have such ready access to a firearm, perhaps events would have gone differently...

Re: Jack Thompson Blames Violent Games For Mass Killing

All your points are good but I mostly thought Fablefreak and Tsuyu had the best 1's

and about the right to bear arms... well I would say only for hunting... and the person who sells you the gun must check your record make sure its clean and etc.

A physopath hell-bent on shooting up his school wouldn't give a crap about those rules. The only thing that matters is that he has got a really easy access to guns. He wouldn't give a crap if he wasn't allowed to "conceal" it or whatever.

By the "right to bear guns" I mean the thingy on that paper that allows Americans to own guns, which means it is alot easier to get one in America than in other countries. Not that all Americans go around waving their guns in public, but the fact that they have the right to own a couple makes it, as I said, easier to get one.

And when I say it is "idiotic" it is because, as you can see by the number of school shootings, that anyone can get a gun or two. There is no system in place to only sell it to people who just want to protect their familiy, and I don't think such a system could ever be created anyway.

I do realize that, but I was just making a general statement. As I said, there were many other factors that could have prevented this. Its not just the guns. The fact that he had stalked 3 different people, wrote macabre play scripts full of violence, and had clear and present psychological problems should have been reason enough for him to be examined and treated for depression and a horrific psychological state.

Naturally, so did all the other kids who killed their classmates in other school shootings.

But they didn't, and then it didn't exactly help that they could get their hands on a couple of firearms, no?

I mean, sure they'd snap eventually, but never on this scale.

Re: Jack Thompson Blames Violent Games For Mass Killing

I'm not talking about other school shootings. I'm not comparing them because this was much worse, and I'm simply saying that in this case this man had obvious psychological problems. Problems which were quite clear, and his disturbed psyche were signs of his impending "snap".

Re: Jack Thompson Blames Violent Games For Mass Killing

I can see his point a bit (a very, very miniscule bit I might add), but it's not like you play GTA or Gears of War and you're suddenly provoked to murder someone. It's only the fault of the gamers who are stupid enough to take the images and experiences of a game and pervert them into some reason to suddenly snap and kill someone. In a nutshell, it's not the game, but the gamer. If they slap a mature rating on something, it doesn't mean you have to be old enough to play it, it just means that you can handle it in my book.
