KoToR tweaking...?

As Oblivion was a big fluke on my side, I decided to borrow a copy of KotoR from one of me mates. Awsome game, by the way, but as in my computer's nature: It lags. Lags bad. And I cant for the life of my figure out why: My computer overkills the system requirements of the game...

So, anyone have any tips of how to tweak your comp for the game? I really like to finish it, but the lag kills it...

Game needs 1GHz processor - I've got 2.4.
Game needs 256mb RAM - I've got 1.5 gigabytes...

do you have anything running in the background? like Mozilla, or MSN or something?

Really wierd that it lags as it doesnt need a powerful computer AT ALL. You made sure all GFX drivers are up to date and that your Direct X is latest version (KOTOR is old game and shouldnt need it to be honest). Your computer should be able to run it NO PROBLEM, what GFX card do you have?

Yeah, the lag really bothers me. And I just upgraded me drivers aswell, the card being ATI Radeon 9600...

The only thing I can think of is my motherboard that.... pre-dates the wheel, quite frankly...But it is strange how other games handles so nicely. I can for example run Fable at max graphic with no lag.

Never played KotOR on pc, but I do know people had a lot of problems with running it...

a patch is available from Lucasarts which deals with a lot of issues with running the game as well as fixing glitches in game...

You tried turning some of the GFX options down? KOTOR is older than Fable so should run much better to be honest, you checked you GFX card compatibility with it?

I AM running 1.03

And I do remember seeing the Radeon 9600 being supported aswell...God, I tell you, the devil lives in this computer.

You cleaned your system with Adaware or CCleaner etc recently?

Good idea, doing that as we speak. Also, the game comes with a built-in program to test your system, and it passed the test on every point....

Like i said it SHOULD run perfectly by all rights, just something is slowing it down.

Funny thing is how it is only in certain areas, or parts of it. Like if there is a long hallway it might run smoothly until I get halfways in it, then lag, then run smoothly after I exit the halfway...

That is really strange as the game isnt demanding AT ALL and shouldnt even get close to slowing your specs down.

yeah, but the test wasn't all that it was supposed to be, hence the patch...

Yeah I know!

And it is not the areas that would be more demanding either, i.e where there are alot of NPCs - it is just random areas, but always the same areas.
