Mad Catz to make Rock Band instruments

The 3rd party accessory provider Mad Catz has recently done a deal with Rock Band publisher MTV Networks to provide 3rd party instruments for their game.

Mad Catz' instrument controllers will be produced for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PS2. The peripheral maker said that guitars would come in wired and wireless varieties.

In Rock Band, which is distributed by Electronic Arts, four players can play together simultaneously using two guitar controllers (bass/lead guitar), a drum kit and a microphone. Mad Catz will be releasing versions of all Rock Band peripherals.

MTV Networks and its development studio Harmonix have ran into snags with Rock Band controllers since the game's US release in November 2007. Faulty strum bars plagued the guitars, and tight supply has prevented the release of individual instruments outside of the $170 bundle (or $160 for PS2).

The Mad Catz CEO had this to say about it...

I don't play Rock Band or Guitar Hero or whatever. I prefer the real thing

Re: Mad Catz to make Rock Band instruments

Just as long as you don't make people start the big stupid debate...As someone who has played in real life but didn't exactly feel like making it my, you know, job, I can say they're both fine. Neither one really affects the other right now as much as people would love to think so (on both sides).

That said...Well, Mad Catz makes something for everything, so I'm not really surprised.
