My Idea is he comes back in other form I'm thinkin like a wolf and helps you bit by bit and some where in the end he turns to a spirit again in his human form and tells you that saving or protecting the desendant of the hero who had beaten him is his way of asking for forgiveness. then he vanishes leaveing the hero wiith a wepon that can defeat the big boss ( like jack o blades )
Or Maze helps you and some where near the middle he vanishes and gives you something important like an item you need to fight or defeat the boss..... or maybe a child that has Maze's blood in him...like Maze's child....and that child can also play a key role......
