Sounds like a good idea to me. A good way to recognize people who deserve to be recognized.
Do these forums have yearly awards or anything? Like; funniest member, best noob, most helpful member etc? That has worked quite well on other forums I've been to.

i think that would be cool, but i think it should be more like member of the week or somthing. only having twelve a year is gonna be hard since there are over 8000 members. or mabey have multiple members of the mounth. or mabey a good member award. or mabey a shut up your rambling griffin......

And grammar, yes you heard me right. In these times of IM-idiocracy we have to take care of and encourage the small portion of internet that still use proper grammar.
