Microsoft lengthens Xbox 360 warranty to three years

Microsoft has extended it's warranty to three years one for general errors and three for "Red Ring of Death" Errors.

As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles. While we will still have a general one year console warranty (two years in some countries), we are announcing today a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message. If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge—including shipping—for three years from the console’s purchase date. We will also retroactively reimburse any of you who paid for repairs related to problems indicated by this error message in the past. In doing so, Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.

Is this enough? We still aren't hearing anything about the supposed 33% failure rate.

I think this is enough, they dont need to release the failure rates percent to anyone, i know it might be high but a £70 repair charge and extending the warranty to 3 years is enough for me. Ive had no problems with mine ever so i cant complain really. The failure rate is high but they have acknowledged it (finally) and now must do something about it.

I think this is great. My 360 got the "3 deadly" last year and it took almoast half a year before they came to my place and picked it up...

Some people i know have complained they sent someone to pick it up before they had chance to box it

I wwas just doing some calculation and at $400 a pop times 11 Million consoles equates to about 4.4 Billion dollars with a cost of 1.1 billion for the extended warranty this equates to a quarter of the Net sales so far and this doesn't even consider the $300 version. Microsoft is definately putting their money on the Considering that they may indeed have found the issue and are now in position to fix it.

They the only major negative thing that is said about the 360 is the red rings of death and the massive percentage of failure rates. Improve this and stop so many breaking down and they will please a lot of people and also at the same time shut up a lot of critics.
