Forgive me for being blonde, but what the hell use is a new game or free Gold subscription if the console required to run said freebies doesn't even work??

This is what I would expect from Sony, not Microsoft...

True, but chances are it could've been that consumer's fault, and not Microsoft's. For a number of reasons, he could've had the 360 in an environment not fit for a 360 (i.e. Very dusty, or hot), or he could have had the power pack in an improper position (which can also cause a temporary Ring Of Death error, causing controls to not work at all.)

A free game or gold subscription doesn't do much good if the problem persists. Microsoft will soon be dropping the older 360 models, with newer ones that have more reliable chips embedded within them.

The "Red Rings" is actually the manufacturer's fault. And the manufacturer said so before microsoft did, and a couple of weeks later Microsoft changed manufacturer. So the faulty 360's is the ones that have been on the market for quite some time, and if you get a newer one (Made within the last 2-3 months) you won't get any problems according to microsoft

I guess I just expect something to be repaired or a brand new "definitely working" one sent in its place when I send it back...it's the stuck up consumer in me, I suppose...

All they need to do is fix the rubbish soldering Microsoft used on the Motherboard and stop the processor from bending and warping away from it.

If the warranty expires its an option definitely theres actually videos of how to do it online, i was watching them the other day and it seems pretty straight forward.

Soldering isn't all that difficult at all - admittedly on my first attempt at school I did solder most of my pens to the motherboard I was working on but I learnt pretty quickly after that

Not just soldering involved though if you wanted a total fix from red rings but its the main part.
