In your Profile options, under "Networking" there is a button called "Group Memberships." it is right under "Social Groups" use that too add/remove bars.

Because the modders who simply add themselves to the group don't have the Modder group as their default usergroup in the Admin CP, hence their name isn't changed in colour, and people think coloured usernames mean extra powers, and when someone sees "mod" in a name, they assume we're moderators.

I was made a modder by Drakan, who obviously changed my default usergroup to modder so my name appears bold and purple.

In which case, I'm a moderator and I will ban you if you don't rep me.

Maybe this only works for adding userbars, as it certainly doesn't give me the option to remove mine.
