^No, that's just not how it's pronounced. Some people with the sterotypical Maryland accent say it more like "Merlin" or "Murrland." I say it more... well, I can't come up with a good phonetic spelling, but I don't say it full "Mary" either. The "e" sound isn't emphasized. Maybe more like "Mare-uh-land." Only not really. Because it is two syllables.
I think I'll stop incoherently rambling about pronounciation now.
