hold your trophy. any trophy then dig. after you dig tthe "you have stopped showing your trophy" will come up and press "a" then you will be holding your spade.
im not sure if you do the same thing except with fishing but while i was holding my shovel i went fishing and then i was holding my fishing rod! its really long...
