The Top # feature was an unofficial add-on coded by someone not of the original vBulletin team. It isn't officially supported and should it bring down the forum for whatever reason and I decide to contact vB support, they'll probably tell me to get stuffed after they finish laughing their heads off. Also, there's the fact that it isn't an absolute necessity to have it and it only uses up more system resources on the server - not a massive amount more, but I'm a stickler for optimization.

A trend among less popular shared-hosting forums is to install as many mods as possible to make the forum look ultra super cool!!!!!11
The reality is, the more busy a forum becomes, the more those add-ons take their toll and ultimately drain resources.
I'm not saying we've got the busiest forum in the world, far from it, I doubt we're even within the top 10,000 busiest forums, but even at this point a dip in performance due to add-ons is noticeable.
Pretty much all the forums I attend; avforums.com, sitepoint.com, digitalpoint.com, etc, have zero mods installed, unless they're custom built or ultra-ultra optimized.
And normally I'm on my laptop within five minutes of waking up but, like a tit, I went and did something completely non-laptop related. Grr. It mostly irks me because the downtime occurred about one week after the release of Fable II, and I pretty much watched the forum like a hawk in the week leading up to and during the game's release, because I just didn't want to be caught with my pants down if the server did die. Double grr.
