Spam.....spam?

I know the mods edit the spammer's links, but is the thread really necessary to still be in that forum?

Back at another forum I moderated for, we simply moved the thread to a "backup" forum, invisible to everyone else except the administrators.

I didn't know if you had something like that?

What we may implement is a system we have on our other Devil May Cry Forum, whereby only the staff can see the threads and it does not affect the other posters because they cannot see them at all - and they are also not crawled by search engines and the like.

It also means that the staff have more time to deal with each offending post as no one is replying to the spammers, reporting the spammers and generally getting wound up with links to Nokia mobile phones and online pharmacies...

Good suggestion, Devalion. I must admit that I instructed staff not to delete spam threads in the past, only edit them. However, I too am growing tired of seeing spam posts clutter up the 'latest posts' statistics log so this has prompted me to install the same anti-spam modification that has proved extremely useful on my Devil May Cry forum.

The mod works as a sort of spam-trap, or spam-filter and zones in on certain keywords used in posts made by users with a few posts; but users with say, more than 10 posts, never need to worry about tripping the anti-spam alarm. I can honestly say new modification this will drastically cut down the amount of spam that appears on the board.

I remember when this place was flooded with spam and commercializers, it would get ridiculous and out of hand, driving everybody insane. Good to see that you guys finally have the ways to get rid of it before it causes too much of a rukus.

Yeah, this mod works well - over at the DMC site we are flooded with spam largely because of the huge number of backlinks we have. I've just deleted twenty two threads of spamtastic content which thankfully, due to the mod, no one sees but the staff.

Over on this site, we rarely get any spam...and if we do it's normally nokia phones..

Does my head in - I don't even bother banning them now, I just delete all the threads coz I don't have the inclination to grant these idiots the privilege of my precious and valuable time...
