Unfortunately 98% of MMO's these days have the pay-to-play idea. Guild Wars was an exception and showed that stable, well populated MMO's could be created without fees. Shame more companies havent adopted the same idea too. I refuse to pay to play any MMO and i will never purchase any of them. I did however buy Guild Wars but hardly any of my friends played it so i stopped.
Guild Wars, like every other "Free to Play" MMO opened up a cash shop, hence they could keep it running.
Buy ingame money, armor, weapons, storage, levels, skill points, ect.
Nexon is the biggest MMO cash shop whore around though, guild wars I think just has storage and appearance stuff you can buy.

Never witnessed any of that in my time playing Guild Wars personally. I know people sell WoW gold on Ebay and such though as well as other things (and thats already pay to play). Highest bidders get the stuff traded to them etc.
well this game looks sweet and for sure will overtake the giant World of Warcraft because i predict on the release of faction changes the game will go berserk and in chaos as players change side making one side weaker and frustrating people for them to leave the game and making the next good MMO top, im glad i left a long time ago... unless they dont release it.
Anyway enough of that, the old republic looks so awesome. Okay im going to be a Madalorian Bounty Hunter basically Boba Fett. Or Sith Warrior either way im gonna own peeps.
The fee that you pay towards the game helps the developer support and upgrade the world you play in so you will continue to like the game and not be bored with new dungeons and monsters like World of Warcrafts new dungeon Ulduar. Thats why Guild Wars cannot compete with World of Warcraft but it does a good job of it.
p.s excuse typos and punctuation loss as i am a lazy bugger!
