I tried rescuing my mother and got caught. So they make me race
and I win so I go to the Warden's office and he reads me poetry.
I look at the combination for the diary locks and open one and
the key isn't in there. Then he puts me back in the tortue chamber.
How do I get that key!

Just keep reloading your save and trying again, the book is random as to which the keys in so you will have to guess and hope each time. If you dont reload and race again instead you might find you are quite old by the time you get to leave the prison after multiple failures.

You don't HAVE to reload, but its better if you do as you lode 3 years off your life..

It's in one of the books. Win another race then you'll get back to the warden's office. I've gotten it on the second try every time so far. except when I was lame enough to lose the race my first time playing. I kept on sneaking with out realizing it I was like "WHY IS HE WALKING"

I know you dont have to but as i said you will end up old if you dont and keep failing.

There's no point in reloading. The FIRST TIME you go to the wardens office you're not going to find the key no matter how hard you try.
You HAVE to stay in prison for a year. That's why there's a cutscene and a fresco.
the SECOND TIME you go in the wardens office it should be there

I did that and 4 times i failed (thats how i found out location key was in was random), then i ended up old by the time i left. Thats when i started reloading the game instead to make sure i stayed young.

Well I've stayed in the prison for 5 years I found it on my third try, after losing twice in the race...

I've never had that many problems. I ALWAYS get it on my second try. Never had to stay there any longer. o_O weird
