Re: Teachers strike
Primary school should be for getting basic skills down and fun. Should stop testing them and let them have some fun! High school is for cracking down.
And there are plenty of people in my school who can hardly read, even at year 11. Even the simplest of words. When they read out things in class it's like watching a train crash, only it's funny.

Re: Teachers strike
Though the situation of teachers in Estonia has gotten better over the years because of constant pressure on the government, teachers still should get more money for what they do.
They have far less control over the stundents than before. It`s hard to deal with "bad" kids these days, and we know it and take full advantage of it. Not me tough, I`m good... ...

Re: Teachers strike
teachers here get v little respect, and thats in part due to them having no powers! they need parental permission for afterschool detension, cannot so much as touch the student without getting threatened w/ a lawsuit (by the kid) and more often than t=not, the parent sides w/ their god awful kid!
ps, its only the NUTs that are striking, so you may still have 2 go 2 school...

If you went to school, maybe you would have a measure of intelligence and would take something like this seriously. That joke sucked **** too.
(Just give me the darn infraction, I don't care.)

I understand the need to test children's abilities but my issue is they already know Jessica is struggling - they have said she won't pass these tests and have confirmed she has the abilities of a 4 year old. But they are doing NOTHING about it to help her - she's still being sent home with work she cannot complete, books she cannot read and writing she cannot manage. Then she gets in trouble for not doing it. Mental...

I know that all too well. When I was... about her age, I hated math (still do) so I slowly but surely fell behind. They didn't care... until it was time for my summer vacation. Had a very funny one, 'cause they sent me home with instructions to do just about the whole math book...
Feels....funny...telling you this, but one important thing to do is to give 'em hell. My mom went to my school bringin' fire and brimstone from hell itself and stirred things up, yelling at just about every teacher in her sight.
After that I got into special classes and such and caught up with the rest of the class.

Re: Teachers strike
If there is one thing I enjoy, it's raising hell with people who damn well deserve it. I have already told Jessica if she continues to be so upset over all this and call herself stupid and I see no improvement or even communication from her teachers I will be marching (well, limping) in there and going mental at whoever is responsible.
I've done it before when she was being bullied and the teachers ignored it - I went in there and said "Either you sort it or I will but your way would be legal."
I've told Jessica to not do her homework anymore and if she gets in trouble, I'll go in there and tell them exactly how they ought to be doing their job. I'm all of equal pay, but they are doing crap-all right now to help a child they KNOW is well behind. If she isn't capable of the work then fair enough and adjustments can be made. If she is behind because some lazy-*** teacher is focusing more on their smoking break and not on the kids then I will be causing so much trouble...
Example - she was sent home with a math sheet which said "you have bought three oranges for __pence. You had __pence to start with. How much is left over?" Tell me what is wrong with this homework and you get an imaginary gold star...

Re: Teachers strike
The bottom of the sheet says "notes for parents - your child's teacher will have entered the correct amounts according to the child's individual ability". They put nothing in so what am I meant to do?
The whole sheet is like that - no values anywhere and no way of knowing what Jessica's ability is seeing as I AM NOT HER DAMN TEACHER. So she isn't doing the homework and if they have a problem with that they know where I am.
Oh, imaginary gold star for you, Tsuyu.
