Video cards be damned!

apparently my laptop doesnt have the proper video card to run fallout 3, which surprises me because I just got my laptop last year and its given me no problems.

so...... first of all I need to know how to find out what kind of video card I have (Im a noob ) and how or if I can get one that will be compatable. I wanna mod fallout damnit!

also, a way to take administer permissions away from vistas power hungry hands would be mutch apreciated.

Re: Video cards be damned!

Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Drop down "Display adaptors"

Some laptops you can't easily change a video card, honestly trying to play most new games on a PC would be more realistic on a desktop over a laptop.

Or you could go to start menu > run > type dxdiag then go to the display tab and its listed in the Device section along side the details about your DirectX version and driver versions.

When I bought my laptop I made sure that later on I could change my graphics card, actually insert one. My current laptop doesn't have a graphics card, it has some wierd chip video driver thing that for some reason manages to run Fable and Source games.

you could go on

and just choose fallout 3 and see what your video card is.

Re: Video cards be damned!

What brand of computer do you have/do you have any of the booklets and such that should have been in the box with it? A lot of laptops do not let you change video cards and know that info would let us be able to tell you if you can, I'm not too savy on laptops, but I have a friend who knows more then I could ever hope too.

Right now I'm guessing your video card has 128MB of ram on it (Intel isn't very good about posting chipset specs in easy to find locations), which to even run Fallout 3 on lowest settings sort of smoothly you'd need in the neighborhood of 256, that's just a guess though.

Re: Video cards be damned!

its a sony vaio, I skimmed through the books I have but its mostly safety info and waranty stuff.

but lets just say it does have a video card I can change, what would it look like? Iv tryed running the game on its lowest settings but it refuses to start simply because it doesnt like my video card. I dont suppose there might be a way to make it work anyway.....
