In a way, yes. It's the primitive instinct to help those most like ourselves succeed, preservation of the species, or in this case, "race" (I was kicked out of school for using the term "sub-species").

As long as there isn't any hate in the word. I disapprove of people using the word, but only for the reason that if someone were to be offended, a big deal could be made of it when it wasn't necessary. I define racism as hateful discrimination, while others define it as anything that could possibly offend anyone. There isn't any possible way to keep from offending anyone unless you killed off everyone except for a single like group and sympathizers in the remaining group, but that remaining group would still manage to find differences among themselves to make offenses on so it would be pointless.
Anyway, again, I don't promote or allow the word, only to avoid complications that might otherwise arise.

There is a term, reverse-racism, that comes to mind. Affirmative action (before I go on, I know someone's going to be offended, please PM me with your comments if you must say something), in my opinion, is reverse racism. Where I live, 97% of the population is hispanic. This "minority" group has a better chance of getting hired over me, even if they are less qualified, simply because I'm white (note: I'm
half-white, half-hispanic, still, white last name means I'm white). Unfair? Yes. But if I'm hired instead of one of them, the race card comes out and I get a call saying that I am "un"hired.
Though, not everyone in minority groups is like this. I've met many people (in minority groups) who find affirmative action unfair, and find that
true equality is fair competition: if I'm more qualified, I get the job, and vice versa.
Having said all of that, no one makes a bigger mess than super feminists when it comes to turning the tables like this (because I haven't upset enough people as it is, bring it on dykes).
