I use to teach how to find the right RAM to sales reps at pcconnection.com
You want to know four things
- Make
- Model
- Current ram (may vary if you've upgraded before)
- How much you want when you're done
There are many types of RAM
The two most common today are DDR and DDR2
As Andy was mentioning certain Motherboards can handle different amounts of memory and certain size chips
Your best bet is to find out what brand RAM you want, maybe based on what is carried at your local computer shop. Then go to their web site to select the right ram for your machine. (I recommend
Crucial)
NOTE when installing RAM make sure you're grounded even the most undetectable electrical charge can cause ram to become unstable. Not that it won;t work just that it will cause your system to hang crash etc.
