The wink is ambiguous. It could just as easily mean a statement of something that should be commonly understood, something like "duh". Like "the sky is blue, wink."

In using words to say what it is you want to say, you can make perfectly unambiguous statements - like "...but all terrorists are Muslim. J/K I know they're not all Muslim."
