No, the animations will not work. You will end up looking like a frozen balverine, no arm or leg movement, with clothes and hair in wierd places. I do not think you can use weapons either.

The weapon can be hidden when sheathed, OldBoy tells us how here:
Scroll down to Hide weapon when sheathed.

Just put the hero id (4299) in instead of a rival hero's id.
